A first cousin of his Majesty the King, Lord Frederick Cambridge, is reported missing on active service, a London cablegram reports. He accompanied the Coldstream Guards overseas. Queen Mary has been in constant touch with the International Red Cross hoping to receive news of her nephew.

The Rev Dr J. Gibson Inkster, who has been occupying the pulpit of St John’s Presbyterian Church, Willis Street, left Wellington last night with Mrs Inkster on the first stage of his return to Toronto.

Guests yesterday at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, were: Messrs C. J. Nyhane, R. M. McLean, H. F. Sim (Wellington), J. S. Jenkinson (Palmerston North), L. Tomlin (Carterton). The death occurred at Waipukurau of Mi- Patrick Windle, aged 79. He was one of the original settlers ■ at Hatuma, which was settled in 1901. Retiring in 1912, he had lived in the district ever since.

Messrs Grundy (Hastings), W. J. Thompson (Palmerston North), Rushbridge, J. Ronald, H. G. Whittaker, Carey (Wellington) were guests yesterday, at the Hotel Midland, Masterton.

Mr Douglas Nelson, only son of Mr and Mrs F. Nelson, Fleet Street, Masterton, has been accepted as a trainee in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and has received notice that he is to enter camp in the near future.

The funeral of the late Mr Alex McKenzie, which took place in Masterton yesterday, was largely attended. The Rev. David McNeur, of the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church, conducted the burial service. Among the wreaths was one from the Masterton Drovers’ Association. Messrs C., G., T., and R. McKenzie and R. Matthews and R. Hills acted as pall-bearers. It is regretted that in an accident reported in yesterday’s issue it was stated that Mr George Dean, of Tararua Street, had been admitted to the Masterton Hospital. The name should have read Mr A. Dean (of Tararua Street), a son of Mr George Dean. It is stated that Mr A. Dean had been on St John Ambulance duty at Carterton and had been offered a ride back to Masterton. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday night of Mr J. T. Werry, managing director of McGruer’s, Wanganui, aged 69. He was born in England and came to New Zealand in 1875. In partnership with .the late Mr J. D. McGruer he founded the Wanganui branch of the firm more than 30 years ago. Mr Werry was a foundation member of the Wanganui Rotary Club and the Wanganui Retailers’ Association. He was collecting for the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund appeal the day before he died. He is survived by a widow and two daughters, Miss J. Werry, who is a wellknown radio singer, and Miss Werry, Palmerston North.

At the annual meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night, officers were elected as follows: Patron, the Governor-General, Lord Galway; president, Mr L. O. H. Tripp; vice-presidents, the Hon Sir Hubert Ostler, Messrs L. G. Reid, E. Riddiford, and W. H. Field; council, Messrs E. W. Barnett (Feilding), T. R. Boyes, H. W. Dale (Wairarapa North), E. W. Eddie (Pahiatua), J. S. Fleming, D. J. Gibbs, H. Goodwin, E. Gudopp (Marton), W. A. R. Jones, W. H. Martin (Taihape), E. G. Matthews (Palmerston North), J. E. Ramsay, P. G. Rhodes (Hunterville), A. J. Seed, G. S. Sharp (Wairarapa South), S. J. Tisdall and Dr G. F. V. Anson. Dr Anson, who is going overseas with the military forces, was granted leave of absence for the duration of the war.
