Snow was evident this morning on the foothills of the Tararuas. In the vicinity of Kaituna all the hills had a good coating of snow. A light fall also occurred in the Mauriceville district this morning. Celebrations Cancelled.

Arrangements made at a well-atten-ded meeting of the Masterton Territorial Association last night for the fitting celebration of the King’s Birthday on June 3 have been cancelled following a request from the military authorities that no celebrations, as proposed, be held. “Enemy Aliens.”

A large placard bearing the words “Enemy Aliens,” affixed to the rear of a large bus containing a number of men caused some excitement in Palmerston. North and other towns between Wanganui and Masterton on Saturday. Needless to say, the bus and its occupants were the subject of intense scrutiny as they passed through towns en route to the Wairarapa and probably a lot of people did regard the innocent returning Wairarapa delegates to the Farmers’ Union conference as suspicious characters who had been rounded up by the authorities.

Tipster Ordered to Leave New Zealand. A fine of £3O and an order to leave New Zealand forthwith were imposed on Raymond Dennison, aged 24. when he pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court to five summonses on charges of sending circulars to persons with intent to induce them to apply to "R. Burke” with a view to obtaining advice for the purpose of wagering on horse races. The police produced one of the circulars sent out by Dennison, who arrived from Australia toward the end of February. “On his own admission he sent out 1000 circulars each week,” said Detective-Sergeant McHugh. "Though he doesn't know the horses, he says he was going to study form and would tip good things to ‘the mugs' who would send him £l. He says he got 20 replies a week.”
