ANOTHER “BLACKOUT”

POWER FAILURE IN WAIRARAPA. On account of a power failure on the Public Works Department’s main feeder - line between Masterton and Woodville the Wairarapa district was plunged into darkness at 5.55 p.m. yesterday for the second time within a week. The Wairarapa Power Board stall brought the Kourarau plant into operation as quickly as possible to supply essential services, and power was restored to the Masterton Hospital area, and to Greytown and Carterton within seven minutes. In the remainder of the district power was switched on again at about 6.30 p.m., via the Public Work Department’s south feeder line from Wellington. Incidentally, this was the first occasion on which this line has been called upon to carry the full load except when it was tested early this year, following its completion.
