Mr T. W. Williams, Wellington is at the Hotel Midland. Masterton. Mr C. J. Atkinson, who has completed 21 years’ service as treasurer of the Christchurch Bowling Club, was made a life member of the club at its annual meeting recently.
Mr J. F. de Lisle, a mmeber of the staff of the Seddon Memorial Techhical College, Auckland, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, London.
Mr Donald Dobson, grandson of Edward Dobson, the first Canterbury Provincial Engineer, and a nephew of Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson, has been appointed Bursar of Christ’s College to succeed Mr E. R. Webb, who will retire in July or August. Mr Dobson is an old boy of the college, of which he was a Fellow for 18 years. At present he is living in Wellington. In view of the decision to call Parliament together a fortnight earlier than originally intended, the proposed visit to Australia of the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, has been postponed. Mr Nash was to have left Auckland for Sydney by flying-boat on Monday to discuss with the Commonwealth authorities questions of mutual interest to the two countries, particularly in regard to defence. Cabled advice has been received by Mrs G. Tite. of Remuera, that her son. Pilot Officer Robert lan Bernard, has been posted missing after air operations on May 16. Pilot Officer Bernard. who is 25 years of age. was a pupil of Mount Albert Grammar School, and was a keen footballer. He went to Australia, where he was chosen for special Air Force training in England. Recently he has been attached to the bomber squadron.
