FIRED ON BY SENTRY
MAN IN GUARDED AREA. SENSATION IN DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 25. An intruder who entered the fencedoff area surrounding the oil tanks on the harbour front, which was guarded by soldiers as a vital point, was fired on by a sentry when he ran after beingchallenged. The man was found inside the barbed wire fence early on Saturday morning and refused to stop when challenged, but the sentry's shot missed and the intruder got away. A serious attempt was made recently to enter the magazine in this vicinity, and it is understood that the men on guard have now been told to shoot first and challenge later if there is any chance of the prowler dodging out of sight.
