MASTERTON SAVAGE CLUB

GATHERING ON SATURDAY ' NIGHT.

At the Korero of the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday night, Big Chief V. S. Wilton installed Deputy Chief F. L. Price as chairman of the evening, after “The King," and the Opening Ode. The opening item was a bracket of numbers by the Club orchestra followed by songs by Savage J. Connell. After the chairman had made a few remarks, an amusing sketch “Useless Eustace” was presented by Savages N. W .Flemming, W. Russell and Kent Johnston. A much-appreciated turn, embracing tricks, magic and memory marvels was then given by “Zara." Another sketch, a story without words, by Savages Kent Johnston and C. J. Curtin created much amusement and songs by Savage Kay, of Carterton. with instrumental accompaniment followed.

The club’s patriotic committee (Savages F. L. Price, W. G. Perry and J. A. Kennedy), with the help of Savage Kerslake, then went through the first of proposed regular drives for funds by auctioning dinners, vegetables, and meat donated by club members. The Scribe, T. E. Handcock, reported that the sum of £3 Us 9d had been collected. Savage Flemming then introduced the visitors. Messrs Ray and Kay (Caiterton and Grey and Irvine (Masterton) and members adjourned for kai. The toast of "The Visitors” was proposed by Savage A. Steele, and the reply was made by Mr Grey. The second part opened with two further excellent items by the oichestra and enjoyable songs by Savage C. Torr. Another amusing sketch “Services Unrendered” (Savages Cottle and Henry) preceded a talk by Savage R. Russell on “Our Empire. Messis Kaj and Irvine rendered a duet with instrumental accompaniment and proceedings were brought to a close by the singing of the closing ode and "The King.”
