ALFREDTON

RIFLE CLUB BALL A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual ball of the local Rifle Club was a brilliant success and the committee and members of the club had spared no pains to make the ball one of the best from the point of view of the dancers ever recorded. Music was supplied by Jack Barnes's Rhythm Boys and the supper was supplied bj the lady members and supporters ol the club. The door takings amounted to £3O, leaving, a profit of £l5 which is being handed to the Red Cross Fund and which is being further augmented by donations of £34 with more ic come to hand. During the supper interval Mrs W. Hood played an enjoyable extra.

Mr R. W. Kebbell presented the trophies won during the season as follow:—A grade:—Edmonds Cup, won by H. Percy; club championship and Kebbell Handicap Rose Bowl, won by J. H. McDonald; Napier Rose Bowl, won by J. H. MacDonald. B grade:—Akel Cup, won by A. Algie; championship, Godinagh Shield, won by I. MacDonald. B grade, handicap aggregate:— Moat Cup, won by Mrs Leach; 500-600 yards handicap aggregate, Greathead Cup, won by H. Seymour. L. Percy’s trophy, H. Percy; Bradbury’s trophy, A. Edmonds; H. Duckett’s trophy, A. Algie; Herbert and Co. trophy. J. H. McDonald; L. Duckett’s trophy, I. MacDonald; Seymour trophy, H. Seymour;, ladies’ trophies, Miss S. Napier and Mrs J. Reid,; field day trophies, -A. Algie. L. Mckeown and J. Reid. Mrs Harry Percy, wife of the club secretary, was attired in brown, with brown velvet coat, and Mrs A. Edmonds, wife of the president, was dressed in claret taffeta.

The, hall decorations which were the subject of admiration, took the form of trellis work in coloured papers, and lycapodium, and the walls were liberally hung with mirrors. The supperroom had been arranged as a lounge for non-dancers. Personal Items. Miss M. Grant has returned from the South Island, having spent the vacation with her parents. Miss W. Smith has taken up her residence in Wellington. Miss M. Smith is the guest of Mrs R. W. Kebbell.

Mrs G. Yairall has returned from a brief visit to nor sister, Mr? George Jones.
