FEATHERSTON

RED CROSS SOCIETY CARD 'TOURNAMENTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A 500 card party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs R. W. Matthews on Saturday, the proceeds from which are to go to the Red Cross appeal. The card winners were: Ladies, Mrs Roxburgh 1; Mrs McNabb (consolation). Meh. Mr Rea 1; Mr Hardy (consolation). Competitions, socks, N. Matthews; tin of biscuits, Mrs Brickie. Th:, cake which was won by Mr R. W. Matthews, was later auctioned. Much amusement was caused by a mock court which was held at the conclusion of the card tournament.

The weekly euchre party and dance in aid of the Red Cross appeal was held in the Pahautea hall on Saturday night when there was a good attendance. The winners of the euchre prizes were: Ladies, Miss C. Bargh T, Mrs Connell 2. Men, Mr J. Warrington 1; Mr F. Woods 2. The box of chocolates was won by Mrs J. C. Bidwil and the mystery parcel by Mr S. Benge. The weekly 500' card tournament which was held in the local Red Cross rooms was well attended. The prize winners were as follow: Ladies, Mrs Rewai; men, Mr Rae. The tea cosy was:, won by Mr R. E. Burt. The butter won by Mr Rae was later sold by auction by Mr Saba. Sweets were donated by Mrs A. W. Edwards and found a ready sale. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Allen Old, New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs L. Lambess, and Miss Connie Jeffrey, of Wellington, were recent guests of Mr and Mrs Jeffrey. Misses M. Lawson, J. Hatton and J. McKenzie returned to Wellington yesterday after having spent a holiday here. Mr and Mrs E. Robbins, Kaitia, have returned home after having been the guests of Mr A. R. Robbins, “Poi Poi,” Pigeon Bush. Mr and Mrs S. Brooker and family have returned to Wellington after having been the guests of Mrs J. Mutter. Mrs Chas Elgar, Fernside, has returned home from a visit to Rotorua.

New School. ’

The erection of the new school is well under way. . Arrangements are being made for another room to be added to the building.
