Messrs R. E. Hankey, W. R. Ferris, H. J. Whitelaw, G. Drummond, M. J. Akel (Wellington). F. W. Greenwood (Palmerston North) and J. Heeney are guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton.

Dr R. F. Wilson, senior medical officer at the Auckland hospital, has resigned. Dr Wilson, who was granted •leave of absence in September for the period of his military service, has now advised the board that he will not take up the position in the future. The staff and agents of the A.M.P. Society met at afternoon tea yesterday to farewell Mr Henry Carle who is leaving for Trentham Camp. In the absence of Mr Brass, the district manager, Mr Fleming, superintendent, made the presentation of a razor set to Mr Carle, and wished him the best of luck and a speedy return. Mr Carle suitably replied. Advice from the Air Ministry that Pilot Officer J. E. Chamberlain is reported missing as a result of Tuesday’s aerial activity over the Western Front has been received by his mother, Mrs Venus Chamberlain, Papatoetoe. Pilot Officer Chamberlain, who was an only son, had been on reconnaissance photography in France since October. He was aged 20 and he left New Zealand in 1937. • The chairman of the Masterton County Council, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, entertained Messrs K. E. Power and J. A. Marshall, of the county staff, who are about to enter camp, at a dinner held at the Empire Hotel last evening. Members of the council and the executive staff and representatives of sections of the outside staff were also the guests of the chairman. Messrs Power and Marshall were the recipients of gifts made by Mr Lee on behalf of the council.

Mr R. C. Addison, Chief Attorney for the Bank of New South Wales in New Zealand, has been advised that Mr Martin Mclirath has been appointed a director of the Bank in succession, to Sir Thomas Buckland, who has resigned from the board. Mr Mclirath, who is a well-known Sydney merchant, is also a director of a number of other companies including Mcllrath’s Pty., Ltd., Mcllrath’s Holding Ltd., Grocery Wholesalers Pty., Ltd., and North West Pastoral Coy., Pty., Ltd.
