RED CROSS APPEAL

PROGRESS OF THE DISTRICT CAMPAIGN.

A LEAD IN PALMESTON NORTH. The appeal of the Order of St John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society for funds with which to relieve those who are sick, wounded or distressed as a result of the war is proceeding satisfactorily in this district, but most of the donations so far are small. In Palmerston North ten men each donated £lOO to the fund for a start. It is suggested that Masterton’s civic pride surely is great enough for ten persons to be found to give donations of, say, £5O, and that we cannot let other centres teach us generosity. Some members of the local executive went to Tinui on Monday evening in connection with the proposed stock drive. The meeting was fully representative and enthusiastically set up a capable and energetic sub-committee to investigate ways and means of making the stock drive a full success. Other parts of the district are urged to follow Tinui’s good example. The Nazis, the committee points out. waste no time in smashing helpless neighbours. All are appealed to to give quickly and so render the help that is needed by our soldiers. DONATIONS TO DATE. TOTAL OVER THREE HUNDRED POUNDS. Donations to date to the Red Cross Cross Society and St John Atnbulanceappeal for the sick and wounded total £305 15s 9d.
