GOLF COMPETITION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The results of last week’s competitions held by the local Golf Club were as follow: — Ladies: Sealed hole • competition— Miss E. Simmers. 51-16-35; four-ball bogey —Mrs W. J. Henderson and Miss W? Dickson, 3 down; Miss Angus and Mrs J; R. Berncy, 3 down. Men: Medal round —R. Hornblow. 105-36-69; D. Fraser. 83-10-73; N: Liardel 98-24-74; W. J. Henderson, 90-16-74. Stableford bogey: N. Liardet, 38 points; D. Fraser. 33 points; W. J. Henderson, 30 points. The following are the fixtures for this week: — Ladies: — Wednesday, stableford boyiey; Saturday:—Aotea Roa Cup competition in conjunction with a L.G.U. medal round. Men: —Saturday. stableford round; Sunday, open. HAMUA CLUB OPENING OF SEASON. Hamua Golf Club members enjoyed a good day’s outing during the weekend on the occasion of the opening of the season. There was a large number of visitors present and the weather was ideal for the occasion. The club's president. Mr J. B. Carruthers, in declaring the season open, welcomed the visitors and expressed the wish that the season would be a successful one for the club. Messrs W. C. Duffill and W. Eising responded on behalf of the Eketahuna and Makomako clubs, respectively. At the conclusion of the mixed foursomes, which was won by Mrs A. J. Morgan and Mr R. P. Davidson, of Pahiatua. members of the club and the visitors sat down to an enjoyable afternoon tea. RED CROSS SOCIETY SUB-BRANCH AT NIREAHA. A sub-branch of the Eketahuna Red Cross Society has been formed at Nireaha and it is intended to hold a first aid class in the Hall on Thursday next. A refresher first air class is being held in Eketahuna on Wednesday evening next. OBITUARY MR WILLIAM KERSHAW. With the death of Mr William Kershaw, Eketahuna has lost an old and highly-respected citizen of 40 years’ standing. The deceased was born at St Helens, Lancashire in 1848, and at the age of 24 years he landed at Wellington where he stayed until went to the Nireaha district in 1900. After spending six years at Nireaha he came to reside in Eketahuna. Over a long period of years, Mr Kershaw evinced a keen interest in municipal affairs and served as a borough councillor on at least two occasions. He was also keenly interested in educational matters and while residing in Wellington he was chairman of the Kilbirnie School Committee for many years. He was also chairman of the Nireaha and Eketahuna school commutes. The late Mr Kershaw was twice married, and besides a widow, he leaves the following children; Mr J. Kershaw (Wellington), Mrs W. Cittadine (Pahiatua), and Mr Gordon Kershaw (Pahiatua). Personal. Mrs C. E. Albrechtsen has returned from a visit to Wellington. Plunket Society. The annual meeting of the Eketahuna sub-branch of the Plunket Society will be held at the Rest Rooms on Thursday next. All persons interested are cordially invited to attend.
