MEETING OF COUNCIL REPORTS FOR PAST MONTH. WORK REVIEWED. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council was held yesterday. there being present Councillors J. B. Carruthers (chairman), C. T. Richardson. P. Davies, G. Houlbrooke, F. Goggin. C. Davie, G. Bailey, H. V. Kebbell. R. Kebbell. J. J. Dougherty, A. J. Perry. The treasurer reported that after the payment of accounts the nett dr balance in the County Fund Account would be £2462. Accounts amounting to £2033 18s 6d were passed for payment. Several matters of a routine nature were dealt with and the Council then went into committee on the estimates for the ensuing year. It was decided to hold the Statutory meeting on May 22. The Engineer reported as follows: Napier’s East Bridge and road. The whole job is now finished and the Contract has been placed on maintenance. The approaches will need attention with the grader during the winter, but should soon settle down to a firm surface. The completed job is in every respect a highly satisfactory one. Hare’s Road Bridges.—During this month, the approaches to Morriss’ and the factory culverts have been completed and metalled and traffic is using same. A temporary bridge to divert traffic at Goggin’s Bridge site has been constructed. Work on the school bridge is proceeding at a satisfactory rate. Alfredton Riding: Ihuraua brains. The work of clearing this drainage system has been put in hand. The tractor being on the job has enabled many heavy logs to be shifted which, in other years, with only man power available, had to be left. Castle Hill Road. The examination of the Te Hoe Suspension Bridge recently led to very extensive repairs being carried out. The timber part of the structure has been practically rebuilt. In its present condition the bridge, with proper maintenance, should give lengthy service. Saunders Road. An examination of the Saunders suspension bridge some time ago revealed the necessity of urgent major repairs and an order was placed for the materials. Now that these are to hand for the deck and that totara is available for the substructure, the work is being pushed ahead as speedily as possible. It is with extreme regret that I have to refer to the untimely death of Mr Harold Price, the Council’s motor mechanic. Mr Price had always proved a thoroughly capable and conscientious employee, and was held in high esteem by the whole staff. The report was adopted.
