YOUNG FARMERS

WAIRARAPA DISTRICT COMMITTEE TOUR OF OTAGO & SOUTHLAND. EFFICIENCY CONTEST PROPOSED. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting in Masterton yesterday of the Wairarapa District Committee of the Young Farmers’ Federation. Mr W. James presided. The question was discussed of going ahead with arrangements for the tour of Otago and Southland. The meeting decided there was no need to cancel the project, and appointed Mr W. James as manager. Provided adequate facilities were available it was decided to hold the next inter-club judging competition at Carterton. Individual prize winners will be given a choice of books in place of the usual miniature cups. Unanimous agreement was reached in the matter of holding an efficiency contest, starting from June 1, to improve the general standard of the clubs.

The judging of hoggets was discussed. It was contended that many judges relied too greatly on prediction and did not place a hogget on its condition at the time of judging. Perry; president. Mr W. James (reelected); vice-president. Mr G. Blatchford; treasurer, Mr H. M. Boddington; secretary, Mr N. Lamont; executive. Messrs H. C. Pearce (Featherston), M.
