FEATHERSTON

COURT SITTING MOTORING & OTHER OFFENCES. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a sitting of the Featherston Magistrate’s Court this week, before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., the following cases were dealt with. On a charge of selling liquor after hours. Frederick Brough, licensee of the Tauherenikau Hotel, was fined £3 and costs. Five men found on the premises were fined as follow Robert Buick (Pukio), £1 and costs; Owen Herrick (Martinborough), Jack Fluley (Featherston), Frank Moulton (Martinborough), and Cyril Karsten (Martinborough), 10s each and costs.

On a charge of having been intoxicated in charge of a car, William Flutey, on the information of a traffic inspector, was fined £5 with costs £1 Is, his driver’s licence was cancelled, and he was prohibited from obtaining another for two years, and he was ordered to take out a prohibition order. Alexander Robbins, on a charge of driving in a dangerous manner, was fined £2 and 10s costs.

For failing to keep as near as possible to the correct side of the road, Dr Macallan, Waipukurau, was fined £2 and 10s costs.

The following appeared on police charges of excessive speed in a restricted area (Featherston borough): A. Kapranski (Hastings), W. Reed, J. Hardy (Wellington), and A. O. Toomer, who were each fined £2 and costs; J. Heremai (Norsewood), Garry Ryan (Hastings), D. Dawson (Masterton) and M. F. Howard (Masterton) who were each fined £1 10s. and costs. PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING OF MEMBERS. The monthly meeting was held yesterday afternoon in the society rooms where there were present Mesdames H. R. Bloxam, in the chair, J. G. McKenzie, R. S. Keenan, J. G. Donald, Roy Donald. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Q. Donald, N. C. C. Shepherd, G. Yule and M. C. Turner.

The credit balance was reported to be £7OB Bs.

The Nurse’s report stated, inter alia: —Number 'of cases on books since society commenced, 868; babies under supervision 72; pre-school children under supervision 22; new cases for the month, 3; naturally fed, 2; partially natural fed, 1; visit to homes, old cases 32; new cases 5; visits to rooms, adults, 78; children, 5; babies, 78; phone calls, 21; miles travelled in car, 519; districts visited were Featherston, Pukeo, Pihautea, Cross Creek Road, Western Lake, Martinborough, Dyerville, Otaraea, Lower Valley, Ruamahanga, Pirinoa and Kahutara.

Personal. Misses Esma Card and June Card left 'today for Levin, where they will be the guests of Mrs H. McKay. The Rev. and Mrs J. Mutter, Opunake, recently paid a short visit to Featherston. Mr and Mrs Brydon, who since the last war have been farming at Tauberenikau, have sold their property to Mr P. C. Holmes, Hawke’s Bay, and will leave shortly to take up their residence in the Levin district, where Mr Brydon has purchased a small farm. Mrs J. B. Davis is visiting Wellington for a few days. Word has been received of the sudden death in Wellington of Mr W. G. McDonald, whose daughter, Miss Ailsa McDonald, was on the teaching staff of the Featherston District High School for many years.
