FAREWELL GATHERING
PRESENTATIONS TO MR E. KEEN.
The guests at “Chequers,” Masterton, recently gathered in the lounge to bid farewell to Mr E. Keen, who has been accepted for training as a pilot in the Air Force. On behalf of Mr and Mrs Johnston and the guests, Mr J. P. Farrell presented Mr Keen with a fountain pen and eversharp pencil.. The speaker mentioned that he had no misgivings about the outcome of hostilities when men of Mr Keen's calibre were offering themselves to form a bulwark between our homes and German barbarity. Mr Keen was very popular with the guests who were sorry indeed to see him leave.
In reply Mr Keen said that he considered nimself fortunate in having keen accepted as a pilot as he had always been keen on flying. He regretted leaving "Chequers” which had been such a happy home to him. Several toasts were honoured and the gathering concluded with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Mr Keen will leave shortly for Wera10a to commence his training.
