ST. LUKE’S GUILD
MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS.
(“Times-Age” Special.)
The monthly meeting of St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Wiggins, Stevens, Kidd, Peterson and Everett.
Miss Kidd stated that the resignation of Mrs. York had been a great loss to the guild, and that the standard set by her would be hard to live up to Mrs. York thanked Miss Kidd for her remarks, and promised her any assistance should she require it. Miss Kidd welcomed back Mrs. Rees, who had been indisposed for some time. The secretary presented a statement setting out the result of the garden party held in March last. The balance of £24 ss. 4d. was considered quite satisfactory. It was decided on the motion of Mrs. Rees, seconded by Mrs. Duff, that the account for interest on the vicarage loan be paid when received. Canon Sykes reported that there was 4/6 in the Parish Hall Mission Box. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mrs. H. Carter and Mrs. S. Stevens. RIVER BOARD MEETING SAME RATES AS LAST YEAR STRUCK. A meeting of the Waiohine River Board was held recently there being present: Messrs A. W. Haigh (chairman), W. Grigg, L. N. Hoggard and W. A. Saywell.
It was resolved that the Greytown Borough Council and Featherston County Council be instructed to strike the same rate as last year on behalf of the Board.
The Department of Labour wrote in regard to Scheme B workers, stating that the previous rate of subsidy could not be continued. It was decided to dispense with the casual labour and engage Mr M. Boyle as overseer, and also to apply to the Department for one man for six months, the Board to pay half this man’s wages. The Public Trustee, Carterton, wrote in regard to the estate of Wm. Udy. stating that in company with Messrs J. Crawford and J. C. Rogers he had inspected the riverbed and the portion of the properties of Messrs Crawford and Rogers adjoining it. He considered that a second groyne should be erected as the first groyne erected had failed to divert the river sufficiently. It was decided to inspect these properties and the river in the vicinity. Golf Team. The following will represent Greytown in a match against Riverside: — J. C. Feast, B. Kiernan, H. W. Feast. T. G. R. Ingley, T. Nelson, A. Lane, J. W. Tate, W. Pope, W. Tully, E. Williams, G. Te Whaiti. S. C. Shedden, A. G. Rhodes, L. Mead, A. G. Peterson, G. L. Robinson, C. L. Curtis. Ladies: Mrs Thompson, Misses Nix, B. Feast, J. Feast, Booth and Mrs Pope. Alleged Theft. On Wednesday night the petrol station of H. (Tui) Morgan was broken into, and a sum of money and petrol coupons stolen. An arrest was late; made by Constable A. Gregor. Visit to Exhibition. Yesterday morning a full train of children and adults, totalling 278, left for the Exhibition. After a most enjoyable day the visitors arrived home at 11 p.m. Due to the generosity ol the Town Lands Trust the children were provided with refreshments or. the way home. Personal Items. Mrs. A. H. York has returned tc Grey town from Levin. Mr. G. R. Jury has returned homeafter a holiday tour of the North Island. Kai Tora Club. The members of the Kai Tora Club are holding their second dance a! Greytown on Wednesday next.
