WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT HASTWELLS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the April meeting of the Hastwells Womens’ Institute Mrs. Madsen (president), presided over a fair attendance of members. The programme for the ensuing months and various ways of helping in war work were fully discussed. Mrs. Morris gave a very interesting account of her recent trip to Palmerston North and her visit to the camp l of the Maori Battalion, of which her brother is a member. Mrs. Morris was heartily applauded for her very interesting talk. The competitions resulted as follows: —Seniors: scones: Mrs. Thorbey. 1; Mrs. Morris, 2; Mrs.- Dick, 3. Juniors: buttonhole on cotton material: Miss Eileen Larsen, 1; Miss O. Halberg, 2. Flower competition: Mrs. Dick, 1; Mrs. Caselcy and Miss P. Thorbey, 3. In the games conducted by Mrs. Caseley. Mrs. Madsen and Mrs. Dick were first equal.
One new member was enrolled during the afternoon. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to the late Prime Minister. The hostesses were Mrs. Morris. Mrs. Dick and Miss A. Dick. The singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable gathering to a close.
