TYNESIDE
GOLF CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING YESTERDAY. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the official opening of the Tyneside Golf Club yesterday. Visitors were present from Te Wharau. Stronvar and Masterton. besides a large number of club members. The links were in splendid order and the weather was all that could be desired for golfing. A feature of the opening was the afternoon tea served by the ladies, which was fully appreciated by those present. The season was officially opened by the president. Mr. lan Macßae, who. in the course of his remarks, referred to the difficulty under which country clubs were working, owing to the war. He considered, however, that the response of members at the official opening was most heartening. Mr. Macßae referred to the fact that the club was a means of bringing the people of the district together. The medal competition over nine holes resulted in a tie in the men’s section between Messrs. O. Williams and J. Armstrong, for first place. The women’s competition was won bj’ Mrs. R. McKinstry.
