WOMEN’S DIVISION PAHAUTEA BRANCH MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) At the annual meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs Ross presided over a good attendance. The president presented the annual report, which disclosed a very satisfactory year, both financially and socially. Mrs Ross thanked members for their co-operation. All the members, she said, had taken up war work and had made a number of garments for the Red Cross Society and were continuing to do so. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs Ross; vicepresident, Mesdames Sadler, Connell, Cade, Farquhar; secretary, Mrs Ness; advisory members, Mesdames McKay and Grant; delegate to the council. Mrs Grant; librarian, Mrs Grant; auditor, Mr Mortenson. The competition for the month was won by Mrs Ness. The points prize in connection with the flower competition was won by Mrs Corlet. The prize was donated by Mrs Ross. Mrs Ross was the tea hostess. LATE MR J. H. HATTON FUNERAL ON SATURDAY. The funeral of the late Mr J. H. Hatton took place at the Featherston Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of friends and ex-Servicemen. Leaving his late residence in Waite Street, the cortege was preceded by about 50 returned soldiers. A service was held in St John’s Anglican Church, being conducted by the Rev J. T. Holland. Prayers at the graveside were read by the Revs J. T. Holland and R. S. Keenan, the latter representing the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Several officers and men from the camp at Tauherenikau were present. Bugler Bock sounded the “Last Post.” The pallbearers were Messrs R. F. Watson, H. Lawson. C. Bargh, F. Cassidy, and W. Phillips.
Wreaths were forwarded from the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the Post and Telegraph employees, the Hockey Club, Swimming Club, Patriotic Society, Mr Roberts. M.P., the Labour Party and the president of the Labour Party (Mr R. Crawford). GOLF CLUB MEDAL COMPETITION ROUND. The following is the result of the first round of the medal competition for Mr T. Hardie’s trophy held on Saturday afternoon: —D. Howells, score 82, handicap 15, total 67; J. McCallum 81-13-68; G. O’Neale 77-6-71; W. H. Rowles 75-3-72; L. G. Benton 90-16-74: I. Donald 93-19-74. The first round of the Stableford competition will be held next Saturday. Twenty-first Birthday Party. On Saturday night in the Odd Fellows Hall, Mr and Mrs A. Viles invited their many friends to the 21st birthday party of their son Richard ("Mick”) Viles. An enjoyable time was spent in dancing.' games and competitions. The guest of honour received numerous gifts. Mushrooms Plentiful. As a result of the rain experienced in this district during the last week, mushrooms are very plentiful, which is very unusual at this time of the year. Personal.
Mrs Lawson. Sent’., and her daughter, Mrs J. George, were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Lawson over the weekend.
