EKETAHUNA

BOBBY CALF POOL PROPOSED FOR BUSH DISTRICTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) As the result of a largely-attended mooting of directors of dairy companies operating throughout the Pahiatua and Eketahuna districts, it has been resolved to endeavour tn put into operation during the coming season what is known as the pool system for the collection and disposal of bobby calves. Mr P. Davies, chairman of the Hamua Dairy Company, was voted to the chair. He explained the reason for calling the meeting, which was to make a start in canvassing the district to induce at least 75 per cent of the dairy farmers who have calves to dispose of to sign the necessary requisition for the establishment of a pool. It was desirable that the whole matter be thoroughly discussed and again at a meeting to be held later, as it was quite evident that better results would accrue to farmers if a pool, controlled by themselves, was formed. Continuing. Mr Davies stated that all the dairy companies in the district were represented either by their chairman or director and this was evidence that the matter was considered of great importance to them. Twentyfour of them were -gathered in the I room, and they represented men who had for disposal some thousands of bobby calves. A large number of those present took part in the discussion and it was resolved unanimously that a pool be formed within the districts named, that those present be a committee to canvass the district within the area, and that a report be presented to a full meeting to be held in Pahiatua shortly. After this it is hoped that definite steps will be taken to form the pool.

BODY FOUND MISSING EKETAHUNA RESIDENT. The body of Harold Price was found al 9 o'clock this morning in a hole in the river at the Swingbridge Reserve, Eketahuna. AU day yesterday a large number oJ searchers combed Parkville for Mr Price, who left his home about 6 a.m. Included in the search party were members of the inside and outside staff of the County Council, Mr Price being employed by the County Council as a motor mechanic. Constable McCowan, assisted by Mr W. C. Duffin (County Engineer) were in charge of the search. Nearly all business places granted employees leave to take part in the search. ‘ It appears that Mr Price arose somewhat earlier than usual and complained of pains, in his side and went outside. When' a party of county employees called for him at 7 a.m. no trace of him could be found. The police were informed and the search commenced immediately. As Mr Price is secretary of the Eketahuna Miniature Rifle Club, the official opening for the season, which was to have been held last night, was postponed until a later date.
