COMFORTS FOR SOLDIERS
PONGAROA WOMEN'S EFFORTS. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Akitio Women’s Patriotic Society over which Mrs Mayman presided, four new members were enrolled, making the number 31. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Prime Minister. The question of holding monthly meetings on dates separate from those of the Pongaroa Women’s Institute was discussed. It was decided to hold the patriotic meetings on the third Friday of each month at 2 p.m. Mrs W. E. Davies tendered a vote of thanks to all helpers and donors of food, etc., for the catering at the dog trials and stated that a substantial profit would be handed in to the Akitio Patriotic Committee. It was also decided to send a parcel to all the soldiers of the Akitio district who left with the First Echelon. A splendid response was made for an appeal for garments for Finnish relief. At the next meeting bandages, hot water bag covers, etc., will be made for the Red Cross.
