WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT PONGAROA. (“Times-Age” Special.l Mrs P. R. Kent presided over an average attendance of members at a meeting of the Women's Institute. In response to a letter from Eketahuna regarding articles for a sale of work in aid of disabled soldiers and sailors, it was decided that the Institute was unable to co-operate as it is engaged in knitting, etc., for patriotic purposes. Members were thanked for their co-operation in providing the five soldiers’ parcels which were forwarded to headquarters last month. It was decided to send a book as appreciation to a former member, who has left the district.
The monthly competition, resulted as follows: Madeira cake (four entries), Mrs F. Jensen 1. Mrs Johnston 2; prettiest machine-made apron. Mrs Eunson 1, Miss I. Clark 2. Next month's competitions will be: fl) Chrysanthemums; (2). sponge roll; (3), best laundered white table cloth.
