WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the committee of the Women's Institute was held recently at the residence of Mrs Marshall. The programme for the year’s activities were arranged. It was decided to hold a dance, the proceeds of which are to be devoted for purchasing comforts for the soldiers. Golf Club Draw. Owing to the state of the weather there was a poor attendance at the golf links on Saturday. The Stableford bogey was won by J. Riwai. The following is the draw for a bogey competition on Saturday:— Ladies: Mrs Carter v Mrs Cowan; Mrs Tikao v Mrs McLeod; Mrs Bragg v Mrs McKenzie; Mrs Sutherland v Mrs Thomas; Mrs Herangi v Miss Cock; Mrs Longman v Miss McDougall. Men: B. McMaster v W. Stewart; D. Tikao v M. Herangi; A. Warren v T. Hume, J. Riwai v H. Carter. M. Waiwera v W. Charteris; D. Jones v G. Munro; M. Waiwera v J. Carter; G. Sutherland v S. Hall; K. Waiwera v C. Longman; F. Lovegrove v S. Thomas.
As a result of the recent rains the greens are in exceptionally good order and the club hopes to make further improvements as the season progresses. Good Haul of Eels. Approximately two tons of eels were caught at the Lake Ferry on Monday night. More could have been taken but for a shortage of bags. Milk Supply Drops. As the result of the severe weather experienced in the district the supply of milk to the local factory has dropped considerably. Personal Items. Mrs T. Te Maari and her family have returned from Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Seawood. Masterton, were the guests of Mr and Mrs Smith for the weekend. Mr Stan Mclntosh is confined to his bed with an acute attack of sciatica. Mrs Owens is the guest of her daughter, Mrs Gordon Sutherland, Whakatomotomo. A wedding of interest to the Maori community will take place at. Pirinoa at the end of the month. Masters Wyvern and Graham Tilson. Te Kopi, were among the successful competitors in the children's horse events at the recent Martinborough sports. 1 Mrs W. T. Hume and Mr Martin Hume are visiting Wanganui, where they are the guests of Mrs Peat. Mr D. S. Warren is visiting the Rotorua district, where he is indulging in his favourite pastime—fishing. Mr G. Munro, who has been ill. is recovering. Mr S. Thomas has returned from his annual leave. Mr Sinclair, who was relieving at the local post office, has gone to Johnsonville. Mr and Mrs Bills have returned to Foxton. Mr Gregory, who was here at the weekend, has returned to Foxton. Mr and Mrs Evans. Lower Hutt, were the guests of Mrs Rang! over the weekend. Mrs Geo Busch, who has been staying with her daughter at North Auckland. has returned and is now the guest of Mrs Chas Busch, Otaraia. Miss Edie, who was staying with her sister, Mrs Mclsaac. has returned to Wellington. Mrs Longman is in the hospital as the result of an injury to her leg. Mrs R. Pearce, Lake Ferry, has entered the hospital for treatment. Private Vic Sullivan, who was the first to enlist from this district, is a member of the Second Echelon. Mr Douglas Putney, who met with a painful accident recently, has recovered sufficiently to be able to resume his duties. Mr R. Te Whaiti, who was on the staff of the Riverbank cheese factory. Woodville, has returned home. It is his intention to return to Woodville next season. Mrs A. T. Spicer has returned from Wellington, where she was the guest of her mother. Mrs Phillips.
