URGENT NEED
GENERAL FREYBERG APPEALS FOR MORE MEN “JOIN US WITHOUT DELAY.” DESTINY OF THE DOMINION AT STAKE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The commander of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. MajorGeneral B. C. Freyberg, V.C., has cabled a message to the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, to be used in connection with the recruiting appeal and it was released at a meeting of the National Recruiting Council in Wellington yesterday. The message reads: We Look To You. I make this appeal to the men of New Zealand, convinced as I am of the justice of our cause, and the urgency of our need.. Germany aims at world domination and the ultimate destruction of the British Empire. So long as she remains undefeated, there can be no peace. Our arrival to join the great and increasing army in the Middle East has had a far-reaching effect upon both friend and foe. When the time comes to take the field, I am confident. no matter how great may be the dangers or the hardships, that the New Zealanders, like their predecessors. will acquit themselves with valour and with determination. Meanwhile, those of you who are still enjoying your beautiful country and its liberty cannot let so small a force as this fight the battles which will decide your future destiny. I urge all who are young and fit enough to bear their share to join us without delay. We look to you. We shall not look in vain. (Sgd.) BERNARD FREYBERG.
