The Rev N. H. Finch, Wairoa, has been elected Moderator of the Hawke’s Bay Presbytery for the next year. The appointment of Mr Toyokichi Fukuma as Consul-General of - Japan at Wellington was gazetted last night. Messrs J. S. McKenzie, Christchurch: W. B. Manning, A. Lazarus and T. H. Wise (Wellington) were at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, recently. Names which appeared today on the Hotel Midland (Masterton) register are: H. Dew (Auckland), H. Holland, H. Hurley, A. L. Peterson, Holmes, Welch, J. Millar, Shrimpton (all of Wellington).

Advice has been received in Timaru from London that the jury of the Royal Institute of British Architects has warded the 1939 gold medal for New New Zealand to Turnbull and Rule. Timaru. who designed the surgical block of the Timaru Hospital. At a meeting of the committee of the Lansdowne School the resignation of the honorary secretary. Mr. J. G. McFarlane, was received with regret, and it was decided to record in the minutes of the school, appreciation of his services during the long period in which he had acted as secretary of the committee.

Mr G. A. Lewin, Dunedin; Mr J. W. Heenan, Wellington: Mr C. L. Grange, Auckland; Mr H. M. Christie. Waipukurau; and Mr E. Hitchcock. Christchuch. have been appointed members of the Local Government Loans Board for one year from April 1. according to an announcement ni last night's Gazette.

At the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, Mr C. E. Vile was elected president: Mr B. E. Keiller senior vicepresident, and Mr A. G. Lawson treasurer. The following were elected to the general committee: Messrs J. Batchelor. W. A. Davidson, A. J. Galpin. R. O. Gloyn, H. R. Green. C. G. Hayward. V. Monrad, N. Wilson. Q. O. Wilson. G. IVI. Whitelock, and W. J. Slack.
