There are fears that an increased use of motor transport because of the coal strike may lead to a serious shortage of petrol in Australia. Acute overcrowding occurred on trains and trams in Sydney yesterday as a result of the curtailment of services. The Premier. Mr Mair, referring to the financial position of the States, said the effects of the strike would "knock the Government's finances sideways.”
