PATRIOTIC FUNDS EKETAHUNA COUNTY COLLECTION. At yesterday’s meeting of the Eketahuna County Council, the clerk, Mr. W. N. Richardson, reported as follows on the result of the recent canvass of the county in connection with the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army appeal:— At the commencement of the appeal, the question of dealing with the county area was. placed before the chairman with a request that he make such arrangements as were best suited to the conduct of the appeal in the county. After discussing the plan of organisation it was decided to approach the district committees of the Emergency Precautions Organisation which were set up last year, placing the position before them and asking for their cooperation. I am pleased to record that all of the ten district committees agreed to deal with their respective districts, appointing collectors for this purpose. In all, a total of 28 collectors was appointed, each district was divided into definite areas, ‘and a house to house canvass was instituted. As a result of this canvass, the total amount collected in the county was £277 12s 6d. Analysing the position, a total of 477 persons contributed to the appeal, and considering that our ratepayers number 460, including absentee owners, it will be seen that the district committees and collectors did splendid work. The actual collections represent approximately Ils 8d per head of persons contributing, and on a population basis over the county represents approximately 2s 6d per head of population. To raise £lOO,OOO throughout New Zealand, it would be necessary to collect an amount of Is 4d per head of population, so Eketahuna county responded very well indeed. In addition to'the above direct contribution, the sum of £66 19s lOd was collected in the following three ways: by street appeal, by public dance and by collection taken at reception to Achilles seamen, and it is reasonable to assume that the county residents contributed to these three sources to the extent of one half of the total collected. Covering the appeal over the whole county and borough, the borough figures have been supplied by the Town Clerk and are included below: —County: All'reoton, £63 12s; Rongomai, £49 16s: Tiraumea, £46 Is 6d; Nireaha. £24 2s: Newman, £23 6s; Kaiparoro. £2O 18s 6d; Hukanui. £2O 9s; Hamua, £lB ss; Putara, £6 2s; Rongokokako, £5 0s (id; total, £277 12s 6d. Borough: £BO 18s: public dance. £32 5s lOd; Achilles reception, £29 14s; street appeal, £5; total £147 17s lOd; grand total, £425 10s 4d.
