FEATHERSTON

YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB ANNUAL REPORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following is the annual report of the Featherston Young Farmers Club, signed by the chairman. Mr E. F. McKenna: — I have much pleasure in presenting the fifth annual report of the Featherston Young Farmers Club. The year has proved quite a successful one financially, but somewhat dissapointing in regard to club activities. Petrol restrictions were partly responsible for the poor attendances. Good feeling has prevailed throughout the year between the members, and we look forward to the coming year with confidence as regards the club’s progress. The club wishes to thank Mr N. Lamont for the very interesting films shown. Thanks are also due to Mr M. J. Scott, superintendent of the Pig Industry. for his very instructive address. We also owe our thanks to Messrs J. Jameson and McMaster for placing their properties and stock at our disposal for the field day, and also to Messrs Leich. Hoggard, Armstrong, and McKenzie for their practical demonstrations. It was unfortunate that we were deprived of the opportunity of holding a field day on Mr Nix’s property on account of the dry weather. The debating contest held during the year was entered into with great enthusiasm. our club defeating Greytown in the first round, but the Masterton team proved superior in the second round. Thanks are due to Mr R. Donald for acting as judge on both occasions. The annual ball was held in Anzac Hall during the year, and was a huge success both socially and financially. There being a credit balance of about £lO. A big measure of the success was dfce to the ladies’ committee who helped with the supper; also Mr Chas Buck for acting as M.C. Special thanks are due to the Misses Tutbury for having decorated the hall free of charge. Unfortunately our intention of taking part in the football tournament at Palmerston North had to be abandoned owing to a shortage of members at the time. We entered in the judging competitions held at the Wairarapa Training Farm, .but our entries were not successful. Regarding the South Island tour our club was represented by only one member. This was unfortunate as the tour was a most enjoyable one. Next year I hope more club members will show their appreciation of this opportunity by takingpart in it.
