LONDON TRIBUTES
TO LATE PRIME MINISTER WISE AND SINCERE STATESMAN. EXAMPLE TO BE REMEMBERED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, April 1. "The Times,” referring to the funeral of the late Mr Savage, recalls in his broadcast from the. sickbed the sentence: “Where Britain goes, we go.” It says: “This brave simplicity is characteristic of a man whose loss is mourned by the whole of New Zealand and by all outside who knew his worth. It was a fitting tribute that the coffin should be covered with H.M.S. Achilles’s ensign.” The “Financial Weekly and Statist” says: "Despite the strong disagreement provoked by his radical domestic policy, everybody recognised in Mr Savage a wise and sincere statesman. His example of personal character and political idealism translated into Dominion and Imperial politics is something to be remembered in all parts of the British Commonwealth.’’
