PARK AREAS
RECENTLY ACQUIRED LAND AT LANSDOWNE. INSPECTION BY BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. A visit was paid on Sunday morning by the committee of the Masterton Beautifying Society to an area of borough land which is becoming known as Williams’Park. It will be remembered that Mr H. G. Williams made, on behalf of the Williams family, a very generous gift to the Borough a short time ago of two large blocks of land to be used as public recreation grounds. One block extends from the Masterton Golf Club to a small frontage on Opaki Road, commanding a maniflcent view of Masterton and the surrounding country. The other and larger block runs from the eastern slope of the links to a road and comprises about 80 acres. After a thorough inspection of the areas, the committee decided to meet in a fortnight’s time to discuss the possibilities of these sections, each member preparing in the meantime his individual scheme for development. Careful planning is necessary and although no benefit will accrue to the community in the near future, the society looks ahead, perhaps 20 years, when this park will be a source of much pleasure to all, just as at present the people enjoy the freshness and beauty of trees planted in our streets years ago by the Beautifying Society. Suggestions from the public in the improvement of the Lansdowne areas will be much appreciated, and. anyone interested should write to the honorarysecretary, Mr John Lawson, 99 Pownall Street, Masterton.
