RED CROSS SOCIETY
MEETING TOMORROW NIGHT. A meeting of the Wairarapa subCentre of the Red Cross Society is to be held tomorrow night when consideration will be given, among other things, to a scheme for the. adoption of Finnish schools. Two representatives of existing organisations in town, to serve on the general committee are solicited. The meeting will be held in the Social Hall at 8 o’clock. One project to be discussed at the meeting is that of enlisting the aid and sympathy of New Zealand school children on behalf of their opposite numbers in Finland. The following cablegram received by the Wellington Red Cross headquarters from the International Headquarters of the Society, emphasises the great need for help that exists: — Information from Finland received by League emphasises tragic plight Finnish children. Two hundred and seventy-five thousand including thousands war orphans returning to ruined homes. Result peace treaty 200,000 population abandoning homes. Immediate relief imperative considering weakened condition due prolonged suffering danger disease due inadequate food clothing. Most urgent need money followed if possible by rapid despatch clothing specially underwear sheets towels materials knitting sewingneedles thread wool dried fruits vegetables vitamin and milk products. In view magnitude effort needed to meet situation suggest, nation-wide appeal be made to youth of your country to support action Junior Red Cross send money to League goods Finnish Red Cross for relief committee Suomen Huolto specifying from your juniors for Finnish children.
