NEW YORK ATHLETIC MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright NEW YORK, March 31. Fifteen thousand people attended a Finnish relief athletic meeting at Madison Square Garden, which was opened by Parvo Nurmi with an exhibition run. Gregory Rice (Indiana) brilliantly defeated Nurmi's associate, Maki, over three miles. Rice's time of 13.52.3 set t new indoor world record by 3.G. Maki, as pacemaker, bettered the world records of 21 and 2:, 1 miles marks with 11.40 and 12.50.9 respectively, but he was unable to respond when Rice spurted in the last lap and won by 30 yards. Alan Tolmich (Detroit) won the 50 yards low hurdles in six seconds and the 70 yards high hurdles in 8.4. Al Blozis (Washington) threw a 16-pound shot 55ft. lin., a 12-pound shot 65ft.. which also betters the outdoor record and an eight-pound shot 78ft. l-Bin.
