Y.M.C.A.

MEETING OF DIRECTORS. PHYSICAL CULTURE ACTIVITIES. The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. which had been held over for a fortnight on account of the Patriotic Fund Compaign, was held last night. There was an attendance of eight directors, with the president, Mr. W. A. Clarke, in the chair. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. J. D. O'Connor, D. E. Lytle and Rev. F. J. Parker. At the commencement of the meeting, the president made reference to the death since the previous meeting, of Mr. H. L. Pearse, who had been a director for a great many years and who was a life member of the Association. Mr. Clarke spoke in appreciative terms of the late Mr. Pearses inletest in the work of the Association and the unfailing loyally he had shown over so many years. A motion of sympathy with Mrs. Pearse was passed, members standing as a mark of respect. A brief report submitted to the meeting showed that the secretary s time had been for the past five weeks almost entirely taken up with work in connection with the recent appeal, made in conjunction with the Salvation Army, for funds for patriotic purposes. Correspondence received included a letter from the United Ancient Order of Druids, offering the Association the use of a clock. This oiler was accepted with thanks.

The resignations of Mr. P. G. Ramsay and the Rev. F. J. Parker from the directorate were received with regret. Il was reported that the two billiard tables had been sold and it was decided to put in hand at once the furnishing of the new lounge. The physical culture activities for the coming season were discussed at length particularly in connection with the difficulty being experienced in securing a suitable instructor. It was decided to make an appeal locally with the object of obtaining the services of someone capable of conducting certain of the physical culture classes, which will open in the near future. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the Board on Wednesday next, when arrangements will be made for lhe holding of lhe annual general meeting, previously postponed on account of lhe Patriotic Fund Appeal.
