GREYTOWN
WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall yesterday, Mrs R. Beu presiding over a good attendance of members.
The meeting opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem and ; he reciting of the creed. Before commencing business the president made reference to the death of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J., Savage), and members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy and respect. Sympathy was also expressed with Mrs Wood Senr., who had recently suffered a bereavement, members again standing in silence. Several apologies were received from members for non-attendance. Four new members were proposed — Mesdames Bremner, J .Haycock, F. Kempton and F. Best. Mrs Beu extended a very hearty welcome to these It was reported that the shop day held by the branch on Thursday last resulted in a profit of £l5 4s 3d. Members expressed pleasure at such a satisfactory result. A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies in charge of the stall—Mesdames Beu, Bunny and Orr. The competition for the fruit cake was won by Mrs Hercock, and the baby’s frock by Mrs Barrer, of Masterton. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Wiggins for donating the cake, and Mrs Weatherstone for donating the baby’s knitted frock. Mrs Beu gave a short talk on the historv of lhe division, and its mation in 1925. She referred to the wonderful work that had been done by the organisation and was still being carried out. The membership was new over 22,000. Mrs Beu also spoke concerning “Kainga Moe.” the WoDivision Rest Home in Palmei ston 'North, and asked members to make known whenever possible . that ’t was a “home away from home ’ for those desiring a quiet restful change. Mrs Beu’s talk was much appreciated. The annual meeting of the branch will be held on Wednesday, April 24. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Bunny, Kiernan, H. Ingley and G. Ingley, who were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
Personal Items. Mr and Mrs E. Maddison left today on a holiday which is to be spent at Nelson. During Mr Maddison’s absence Mr J. Robb will be acting postmaster.
Bowling. The Grey town green is to be closed at the end of the week. An immediate start is to be made with the top dressing while the ends of the gieen are to be re-timbered.
Tenders fo.r’ School Work. The Wellington Education Board is calling for tenders (to close at noon on April 10) for the installing of a heater in the woodwork room at the Greytown District High School, the erection of new cupboards, etc., and renovations to the school residence. Plans and specifications can be seen at the "Times-Age" Office at Masterton.
