GOLF SEASON TO BE OPENED ON SATURDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The golf season will be opened on Saturday. The club has had the fairways and greens improved considerably and it rain falls they will be in first class order for the opening day.
Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Enoka, who have been visiting Nuhaka, have returned home. Mr and Mrs G. Didsbury, Wellington, who were guests of their son, Mr Duncan Didsbury, Pirinoa, for the Easter holidays, have returned to Wellington. Mr J. A. Sutherland was a visitor to Wellington for the Easter holidays. The death occurred at Wangaehu recently of Mrs Hiroti, mother of Mrs T. Te Maari, Kohunui.
Privates Rowley and Bert Hansen, of the New Zealand military forces, paid a short visit to the district. Owing to their limited' stay there was no opportunity for the people of the district to entertain them However, some of thp members of the local committee visited Mr Henson’s residence and presented the soldiers with a wristlet watch each as a gift from the residents of the district. They both thanked the residents for their kindly action and good wishes.
The Misses Hensen, Wellington, were visitors for a few days. Mr T. Tewiata, who spent the Easter holidays in Foxton, has returned home. Mr and Mrs Longman have returned from Foxton. Mr John Jones, Wellington, was the guest of Mr and Mrs Bragg for the Easter holidays. Mr H. B. McMaster, who was in Napier for the golf tournament, has returned home.
' Mr L. Royal hs returned from Ohau where he spent the Easter holidays with his parents. Mr Barney visited Wellington during the Easter holidays.
Eels Plentiful. . Large catches of eels are being made at the Lake Ferry. Damage by Frost. A sharp frost was experienced here with the result that marrows and similar tender crops were damaged. Tomatoes suffered most and much fruit was ruined.
An unknown motorist late on Saturday evening left the road and crashed through the fence at a point known as “Kohai’s Mistake,” on the Whakatomotomo cutting. Evidently no one was hurt, but the fence was considerably damaged.
