AUTUMN MEETING OPENED IN FINE WEATHER
LARGE HOLIDAY CROWD PRESENT. CHIEF EVENT TO LADY FURST. The Wairarapa Racing Club's autumn meeting is being’ held in glorious weather at Tauhe.renik.au today. There is a large holiday crowd and the course is in splendid order afler overnight rain. The following are the results up to the time of going to press:— MAIDEN PLATE. 6 furlongs. 6 Coronado. 8.7 (F. W. Power) .... 1 7 Balgolah. 8.7 (R. Hawkins) 2 5 Barlato, 8.7 (W. Doyle) 3 Also started: 4 Batsham, 13 Beagle, 11 Daregain, 8 Equity. 3 Kinkajou, 14 Manahou. 1 Master Solway, 16 Rose Mimetic. 12 Royal Portrait. 2 St Grace. 9 Flyon.
Won by three-quarters of a length, a head between second and third. Timo 1.14 2-5.
From the start Barlato jumped out followed by Coronado. St Grace, Master Solway and Batsham. The field remained unchanged until reaching the straight, when Coronado moved up very fast, closely followed by Balgolah. Daregain, Master Solway. Equity and Rose Mimetic.’ Barlato fell back. Coronado prevailed to win by threequarters of a length, with a head separating Balgolah and Barlato. MOKAI HANDICAP. 6 Furlongs. 1 Alunga 8.3 (A. Jenkins) 1 2 Fiancee. 7.11 (D. M. Ryan) 2 3 Dungarvan, 9.2 (B. Brodie) 3 Also started: 4 Jeanne. Won by a length; a head. Time. 1.12 4-5. The pace was made by Fiancee with Alunga well behind. Down the straight Alunga moved up to take the lead, followed closely by Fiancee and Dungarvan. Alunga finally passed the post a length ahead of Fiancee. TU HI TAR ATA HIGH WE IG HT. Nine furlongs and 80 yards. 1 Acrobat. 9.10 (R. A. Hawkins) .... 1 4 Good Sun. 9.12 (L. T. Nesbit) .... 2 5 Phil. 9.7 (P. Burgess) 3 Also started: 2, Gay Fox; 6, Gay Artist; 3. War Cloud. Won by neck; 2 lengths. Time, 2.4 secs Gay Fox was fourth. Acrobat jumped out from the start followed by Phil, Gay Fox and Wai' Cloud which were in a bunch in front of Good Sun and Gay Artist. Al the mile post, the order was Phil. Acrobat, Good Sun. Round the turn Acrobat took the lead, followed by Phil. Good Sun and War Cloud. Down the straight Acrobat and Phil were just ahead of Good Sun, who was moving up. Then came War Cloud and Gay Artist. A great fight look place between Acrobat, Phil and Good Sun, the former winning by a head from Good Sun.
EASTER HANDICAP. I', miles. 2 Lady Furst, 8.12 (W. Doyle) .... 1 3 Galteemore, 7.51 (F. Power) .... 2 1 White Rajah, 8.1 (A. Jenkins) .... 3 Also started: 6 Tooley Street, 5 Dainty Sue, 4 Trebor. Won by two lengths, a length between second and third. Trebor was fourth. Time 2.7 1-5. From the start Galteemore wont to the front to lead by a length from Lady Furst, with White Rajah another length away, and Dainty Sue and Tooley Street close behind. The order remained unchanged at the mile post. Down the straight Lady Furst took charge from Galteemore, and went through to win by two lengths.
