FIRST GAME

The opening of the New Zealand Centennial basketball tournament al Wellington today was favoured with ideal weather conditions. Twenty-Two senior and twelve school teams from all parts of the Dominion are taking part.
The opening games this morning were confined to the secondary school teams. This morning’s results were as follows:—Waitaki Girls High beat Wellington East. 15/8; Palmerston North boat Taihape, 24 '4: New Plymouth High School beat Raurimu High School, 29/8: Wellington College beat Granity, 20'6: Wairarapa Collect beat Taihape, 16/5.
