GREYTOWN
BOWLING GRADY MEDALS MATCH, (“Times-Age” Special.) Messrs Butler and Kilgour, of the Park Club, visited the Greytown green last evening and played a match for the Grady Medals. The first part of the game was very even, but the second half gave the holders Messrs Shedden and Higgison, a big margin. Greytown has entered three rinks for the Martinborough tournament at Easter. National Appeal. The results of the national appeal by the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army in the Greytown district has now exceeded £9O and some returns are still to come. MAGISTRATE’S COURT MONTHLY SITTING.
The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at Greytown yesterday before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. Judgment by default was given for Maxton and Co against Major Rewi for £l4 12s 7d and costs £2 14s. On a judgment summons R. G. Green was ordered to pay J. Keesham £l4 14s 6d. in default 14 days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as defendant paid £ 1 per month. Arthur Battersby Thomas was charged with having been in a state of intoxication whilst in charge of a motor car. He was fined £lO and his licence was cancelled till March 31, 1940. The Magistrate stated that as the defendant was only a youth and had got out of the car he would not inflict imprisonment. Mr J. F. Thompson appeared for Thomas. Nelson Victor Herrick was fined 5s and costs 12s for having no warrant of fitness for his motor cycle. Harry Williams, for a similar offence, was fined £1 and costs 12s. The Transport Department proceeded against Rangi Ropiha for having driven in a manner dangerous to the public. He was fined £5 and costs 15s and his driving licence cancelled for 10 days] Sidney Everard Byron Wood had his licence cancelled till May 31 for having failed to carry out the conditions on which he was allowed to retain his driving licence. He was convicted on November 1 for dangerous driving. A charge against Cyril Binstead of driving a motor cycle without due care and attention was dismissed. Ama Turei and Ropata Rewi were charged with hawking fish without a licence. Constable Gregor, who prosecuted, stated that the accused said they were not aware that they were breaking the law. This regulation had only come into force in January and was not widely known. Every person hawking fish must have a licence and could only operate within the allotted boundary. Defendants were convicted and ordered to pay costs. Personal Items. The Greytown members of the Second Echelon are to be entertained in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Easter Monday night. Mr and Mrs S. C. Shedden will spend the Easter holidays at Foxton. Croquet. The Park Club will hold a half-hour tournament on Tuesday next. Boys’ Band. It is understood that an attempt, is being made to start a boys’ band in Greytown. Golf. Good progress lias been made with the preparation of the greens for the coming season, and it is expected that players will be able to use the links after Easter.
