SOLDIERS’ SOCIAL

GATHERING AT RONGOMAI.

(“Times-Age" Special.)

The Rongomai schoolroom was packed to the doors when three district soldiers, Gunners R. Graham, J. Jones and Private T. Allwood, were entertained. Among those present were visitors from Eketahuna, Pahiatua, Alfredton and Tiraumea. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Messrs D. Thompson and V. Liardet. Miss Irving played a much-appreciated extra. The M’s.C. were Messrs J. Evans and M. Tomlinson.

During the supper interval Mr F. White, on behalf of the Rongomai residents, presented each soldier with a safety razor. Mr A. H. Herbert congratulated the men upon the step they had taken, and appealed to young men generally to follow in their footsteps and enlist, for Only by so doing could they hope to defeat the enemy. Musical honours were accorded the recipients, who later briefly returned thanks.
