THREAT TO SCANDINAVIAN STATES DENUNCIATION OF DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE. -DIRECTLY INCOMPATIBLE WITH TREATY." Ry Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) MOSCOW, March 20. The radio announced that the conclusion of a defensive alliance between Finland, Sweden and Norway would be directly incompatible with the Russian-Finnish Treaty. Norway's politics, it was added, were directed against the Soviet. "PURELY DEFENSIVE” REPLIES BY SCANDINAVIAN STATES. (Received This Dav. 11.20 a.m.) STOCKHOLM. March 20. The Swedish Foreign Minister (M. Gunther) said: "The Moscow statement is founded on a misconception. The envisaged Scandinavian pact would be purely defensive.” A Helsinki message states that M. Tanner (Finnish Foreign Minister) said: "There must be some misunderstanding. The object of the proposed alliance is solely concerned with the neutrality of lhe countries concerned. Russia has no reason to regard the alliance in the manner the radio indicated."
An Oslo message reports that Professor Koht (Norwegian Foreign Minister) said: “Moscow is wrong in believing that the Scandinavian negotiations have begun.”
