OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
N.Z. FOUNDERS’ SOCIETY (To the Editor.) Sir —The meeting called for this evening to inaugurate a local branch of the Now Zealand Founders’ Society, recalls to mind the effort of the laic Mr. Richard Barton and others of our town to keep in existence the then local branch of the Early Settlers’ Association. The Founders' Society membership requirement-—embracing as it doos, all families whose ancestors helped to found the first (and ten later) years of provincial settlement in the Wellington or other prow. ■ Q s. as the case may be. covers new ground. With the stimulating inclusion of so many local pioneer ribbon-holders to give the new proposed local branch of the N.Z. Founders' Society a real historical membership start, our Wairarapa districts of Masterton and Greytown (founded in 1853-54) alone should keep the ball rolling, not only up Io the respective centennial dates of their own settlement founding (March. 1853. and May. 1854) but even with accumulating membership strength, the second century of New Zealand settlement, as well. Wishing tonight's meeting the success it deserves. —I am. etc.. N .1 E Master-ton March ftl
