GREYTOWN
BOROUGH COUNCIL REST ROOM CARETAKER APPOINTED. (“Times-Age" Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council the Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) presided. Others present were Councillors 1. Blissett, E. Balfour, G. F. Eagar, H. J. Farley, H. J. Nightingale, W. A. Tate. F. Wood. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors H. C. Trotman and A. Stuart. The foreman reported that four days had been spent on the clean up of rubbush from properties and he estimated that another four days would complete the work. The Building Committee recommended tha Mrs M. Higgins be appointee, caretaker of the Rest Room. The Town Clerk was instructed to get printed notices for the Rest Room. A sign “Ladies only” is to be put up as it was reported that men were going into the room. The Plunket Society forwarded a letter of thanks for the grant of £lO made by the Council. Mrs W. J. Knell wrote resigning from the Library Selection Committee. The matter was left for the Library Committee to deal with. The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs wrote asking what steps the Council had taken in connection with a town planning scheme. This matter was deferred till the next meeting of the Council, the Town Clerk in the meantime to procure a copy of the recent publication of the Town Planning Code issued by the Standards Institute of New Zealand. The Mayor reported having attended the recent Municipal Conference, and that the remit forwarded by the Greytown Borough Council in connection with the valuation of properties hart been favourably received and left in the hands, of the executive to deal with. Councillor Eagar reported that the P. and T. Department had topped the trees in Wood Street and had left the trimmings on the road side. It was decided to ask the Department to clear away the trimmings in future. Councillor Ttate asked if any person had been given authority to set traps in the Memorial Park. The Mayor stated that no authority had been given. Councillor Tate then moved that the Caretaker be instructed to report in connection with any person found laying traps in the Park. Councillor Tate asked for information concerning the fire in the Park. The Mayor replied that the Police had the matter in hand. It was decided that the Caretaker rebuild the Maori whare and plant a creeper over it. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Frederick Ridgley took place at Greytown on Tuesday. The Rev H. E. Harkness conducted the service at the Methodist Church and at the graveside. The members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association (Messrs P. Brickell, S. Shedden. R. O’Neale.F. Gray, H. Carter and T. R, Hancock) acted as pall bearers. The coffin was draped with the Union Jack. There was a very large attendance at the funeral of the late Mrs A. Wood which took place at the Greytown Cemetery •on Tuesday afternoon. The Rev H. Bloomfield officiated at the graveside and the pall bearers were Messrs J. Wood. C. Maxton, A. Dunnet, F. Wallace, G. Garrett and J. Svenson.
