GIFT PARCELS
CIGARETTES AND TOBACCO MAY BE INCLUDED. IN UNADDRESSED PACKAGES. > \ Cigarettes and tobacco may be sent to New Zealand troops overseas if these goods are included in unaddressed gift parcels forwarded through zone committees and patriotic councils. They must not be included, however, in parcels forwarded to individuals, as these parcels are still subject to Egyptian Customs duty. All unaddressed parcels for distribution to members of the forces are admitted into Egypt duty free as army stores. The suggested list of contents for a-gift parcel are: One handkerchief (khaki if possible, failing this any colour but white); 1 tin of milk, or coffee and milk, or potted meat; 1 tin of sweets, or cake, or small cakes (about IJlb: wt.); 1 pair black bootlaces; 1 small tin fruit (about lib. wt.); 1 toothbrush with paste: sometimes a small scribbling block, or pack of playing cards; cigarettes or tobacco. Parcels containing playing cards should be marked with a “C.” Paper and string wrapping will be sufficient as parcels will be sent forward in cases.
