RECRUITING RALLY
GATHERING AT OPERA HOUSE TONIGHT. Local Territorials and members of Classes I. and 11. of the National Military Reserve, will march through Masterton streets this evening prior to the recruiting rally to be held at the Opera House at 8 o'clock. The speakers for the occasion will be Mr. A. Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, and Mr. J. Robertson, M.P. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan will preside. A full muster of Territorials and members of the National Military Reserve is urged. In view of the sudden fall in enlistments, following the announcement that the No. 7 Area (Wai-rarapa-Hawke’s Bay-Gisborne) had filled its quota, the meeting is particularly opportune. FIGHTING SERVICES DISTRICT APPEAL FOR FUNDS. AUCTIONING OF PICTURE , TONIGHT. A fine photograph of H.M.S. Achilles with photographs of Wairarapa members of the crew inset, donated by Mr W. G. Perry, is to be auctioned at the recruiting rally in the Opera House this evening. Last night a number of postcard reproductions of the picture were sold at the Centennial concert in the Opera House. The proceeds of tonight’s auction will go to the Fighting Services Welfare Fund. The postcard reproductions will be on sale tonight in the vestibules of local picture theatres, both before the performance and during the interval, and also at the Opera House. COLLECTION TO DATE.
District donations to the Fighting Services Welfare Fund at noon today totalled £1687 18s. 11d.
