TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING. WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS. The fourth annual meeting of the Masterton Townswomen's Guild was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs W. H. Judd presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode and the reciting of the Aspirations and a Prayer for Peace. Mrs Judd made sympathetic reference to the bereavement suffered by Mrs Pearse and a motion of condolence was carried by all standing in silence. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The Guild decided to enter a decorated lorry in the Centennial procession. Under their captain, Mrs Judd, a team is busy collecting for the National Patriotic fund.
Mrs W. H. Judd, the retiring president, was thanked most sincerely for her work for the guild during her four years of office and was presented with a bouquet by Mr J E. J. Burke, vicepresident. Mrs A. L. Bennett was elected president unopposed. Mrs Engstrom was again elected auditor. The guests of honour, who were entertained at afternoon tea, presided over by Mrs Judd, were twelve older members of the guild. Each was presented with a shoulder spray and accorded musical honours. All the members joined in the singing of old time songs, led by the Singing Circle, with violin obligato by Mrs Jarvis. The results of the competitions were: Three preserves: Mrs Coe 1. An article to cost not more than Is: Mrs Coe 1, The potato growing competition resulted. grown from two seed potatoes: Mrs Coe, 17Jlbs, 1; Mrs Pawson. 15,]lbs, 2; Mrs Walker, 131bs, 3. For exhibition only were 381bs from two seed potatoes grown by Mrs A. L. Bennett.
The result of the ballot for the committee was: Mesdames Anstis, Copp. Day, Dixon. Duckworth. Lyttle (treasurer), Milne, Snowsill, Taylor (secretary )? Walker and Whittaker. Mrs H. Henderson and Mrs Whitton, from Manaia-Solway institute, acted as tellers and were sincerely thanked. The meeting was brought to a close by the singing of the Ode to Friendship and the National Anthem.
