SOLWAY SCHOOL
ANNUAL SWIMMING SPORTS. Favoured with fine weather, the annual swimming sports of the Solway School were held recently in the school baths. Parents and friends of the pupils were welcomed by the chairman of the school committee, Mr C. McLauchlan. who expressed appre-.J elation of their attendance, which indicated their practical interest in this branch of the school's activities. All events attracted satisfactory entries, which gave concrete evidence of the value of having baths attached to the school. The boys’ championship was won by Fred Sexton: the girls’ championship by Rona McGovern, with Margaret Stewart a close second? Loth the beginners' and the learners’ races proved very popular. PICNIC AT “THE CLIFFS.’’ “The Cliffs" was the venue of the annual picnic held on Saturday. Very complete arrangements were made by the school committee to ensure that a happy day would be the lot of die children. Its popularity was shown by the large gathering of children and their parents. The time was occupied with a programme of running events with a short period for an afternoon swim. The catering was in lhe hands of the commitlee, who have reason to be proud of the success of the day.
