MAHUNGA GOLF CLUB

ASSISTANCE FOR PATRIOTIC FUND. LINKS OPENING ON APRIL 6. At a meeting of the committee of the Mahunga Golf Club, held last night, it was decided to have the official opening of the links on Saturday, April 6. It was hoped to have the course ready for play during the Easter holidays when members could get in some useful practice. In connection with an appeal from the New Zealand Golf Association to assist the National Patriotic Fund to provide for the welfare of the New Zealand fighting services, it was decided to approve the scheme and a competition for men members was to be arranged early in April. The New Zealand Golf Association suggested that every club in New Zealand could hold a men’s competition in April, competitors to be charged an entry fee of 2s each, the amount so received to be forwarded to the secretary of the Association. The Association also proposed to subsidise from its funds the amounts received from clubs the subsidy ranging from £1 to £3 according to the number of club members.
