PETROL RATIONING

PROVISION FOR EASTER HOLIDAYS. APRIL COUPONS AVAILABLE, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Motorists are to be allowed to draw on their April petrol coupons during March. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan, said yesterday that this would permit members of the Second Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force to get the most from their final leave and would enable motorists to go further afield during the Easter holidays.

“In addition to the March allowance already notified, coupons numbered 23, 24, 25 and 26 will be available between now and the end of April,” said Mr Sullivan.

The Minister said he was sorry that the necessity for rationing did not permit the granting of a special holiday allowance. The Government was doing its best, however, to make existing supplies go as far as possible, and he felt sure that motorists would co-operate in not wasting the petrol that was available. Those who use their April rations during March would realise that further supplies could not be made available next month.

Mr Sullivan appealed to all users of motor spirit to assist the petrol conservation campaign by economising in their oil fuel consumption.
