THE FIGHTING SERVICES WELFARE FUND GOOD EARLY RESPONSE. DONATION FROM T. BORTHWICK & SONS. At noon today Wairarapa district donations to the Fighting Services Welfare Fund totalled £6lO 5s Bd. Further business firms whose staffs are making donations to the Fighting Services Welfare Fund include Wright. Stephenson and Co. the Masterton Printing Co. and Jones and Joyce. Team captains reported at the Y.M.C.A. rooms after Monday’s outing, that their reception at the homes visited had been most cordial. The firm of Thos Borthwick and Sons (A’sia) Ltd, yesterday sent a cheque to the Office (Y.M.C.A.) for £250. This represents an instalment out of £lOOO promised by the 'firm to be spread over twelve months and apportioned among their branches. The Masterton Swimming Club, which is holding a swimming carnival this week and is charging a silver coin for admission, has promised to donate the net profits to the National Fund. On Saturday last Miss O. R. Sutherland and Mr H. H. Daniell visited Mauriceville. After their addresses an enthusiastic committee was set up to begin canvassing. Mr Daniell returned with a load of vegetables from the Mauriceville people and the sale of these realised a substantial sum.
