TIRAUMEA

CRICKET MATCH WITH PONGAROA. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday Tiraumea played a cricket match with Pongaroa at Pongaroa, the game resulting in a draw. Tiraumea batted first and made 158 (C. Raleigh 47, N. Hislop 31, G. Hart Junr. 27, L. Curtis 19). At stumps Pongaroa had 6 wickets down for 113 runs (S. Eunson 70). Bowling for Pongaroa Robertson took 3 for 14, and bowling for Tiraumea Hislop took 3 for 30. R.S.A. Match. During the weekend the Dannevirke branch of the R.S.A. motored to Pongaroa and played the Pongaroa branch. The Pongaroa side managed to reverse the result of their earlier game some three weeks ago by beating Dannevirke. The scores were as follows:- — Dannevirke, first innings: Rowe 10, Friis 10, Raybone 10, Meek 14, Hargreaves 7, Hanen 13, Moore 8, Stratford 1. Redwood 31, Senk 10. Blomfield .1, Gilhooley 1, total 123. Pongaroa replied by scoring 193: Hart 1, Hales 15, C. Raleigh 19, Duncan--10, S. Raleigh 43, Harold 15, Theed 4. Reed 18. Moynihan 7, Ransom 34. Soilness 6. Clemens 10.

In Dannevirke’s second innings 79 runs were scored for 9 wickets at stumps (Meek 5, Raybone 18, Friis 10, Rowe 1, Stratford 10, Senk 10, Blomfield 1, Moore 2, Hargreaves 2, Gilhooley 10). Bowling for Pongaroa Harold took 4 for 29 and Hart 3 for 17. Bowling for Dannevirke Rowe took 3 for 39, Friis 3 for 26 and Raybone 3 for 35. At the conclusion of the game Mr Hargreaves, the Dannevirke captain, thanked the Pongaroa branch for its hospitality and expressed the hope that the Dannevirke team would have its revenge. He called on Mr Redwood to present the trophy, "A Digger’s Bat,” which is held by the winning team after each game. Mr Redwood endorsed Mr Hargreave’s remarks and handed the bat to Mi Theed. the Pongaroa president, who replied briefly, expressing thanks tc the Dannevirke team for its visit and saying also that he expected the tat to remain in Pongaroa. The bat was engraved on the spot.
